The Sacred Housing of Memory: The Architecture of Memoir
with Brian Turner

Himalayan Literature Festival & Writers Workshop 2026
The Malla Hotel
Kathmandu, Nepal
30 May 2026
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (US Eastern)

In this generative workshop, participants will explore memoir and the housing of experience within the ever-evolving shapes available to us in the essay. Together, we will experiment with braided essays, hybrid forms, and other innovative approaches in service of discovering new inroads into creative practice.

Prior to the workshop, participants will receive a packet of essays from a variety of authors working in the field. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite writing tools, along with curiosity and openness to creative exploration.

Brian Turner is the author of the memoir My Life as a Foreign Country and five collections of poetry, including Here, Bullet and The Wild Delight of Wild Things. His poems and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, National Geographic, and Harper’s, among others. A Guggenheim Fellow and recipient of numerous literary honors, his work has been translated into multiple languages worldwide.
