Mary Newell

An American poet, teacher, and explorer of the living world’s deep interconnections, Mary Newell’s work bridges poetry, ecology, and embodied awareness—inviting readers to listen to the language of the earth. She is the author of ENTWINE (BlazeVox, 2025) and the chapbooks TILT / HOVER / VEER (Codhill, 2019) and Re-SURGE (Trainwreck, 2021). Her poems and essays have appeared widely in journals and anthologies, exploring themes of ecology, embodiment, and interconnection.

Mary is also co-editor of The Routledge Companion to Ecopoetics and Poetics for the More-than-Human World: An Anthology of Poetry and Commentary. She teaches creative writing and literature at the University of Connecticut, Stamford, and lives in the Hudson Highlands of New York. A certified practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education, Mary integrates movement, mindfulness, and poetic resonance into her life and art—approaching poetry as an embodied way of belonging to the Earth.
