Yuyutsu Sharma is an internationally acclaimed poet and editor. Named “the world-renowned Himalayan poet” by The Guardian, “One-Man Academy” by The Kathmandu Post, and “Himalayan Neruda” by Michael Graves (Brand Called You), he is one of the few poets in the world who makes his living entirely from poetry.
The author of eleven poetry collections, his latest, In God’s Messy Workplace: New Poems, appeared in 2026. His work has received fellowships and grants from the Rockefeller Foundation, Ireland Literature Exchange, the Trubar Foundation (Slovenia), the Institute for the Translation of Hebrew Literature, and the Foundation for the Production and Translation of Dutch Literature.
Yuyutsu has presented his poetry and taught creative writing and translation at leading institutions around the world, including Heidelberg University, the University of Ottawa, the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s University Belfast, the Irish Writers Centre, the Rubin Museum, Beijing Normal University, New York University, and Columbia University. He represented Nepal and India at the Poetry Parnassus Festival during the 2012 London Olympics, and his work was featured in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew exhibition Travel the World at Kew.
A lifelong traveler and solitary trekker in the Himalayas, Yuyutsu’s writing explores landscape, migration, spirituality, and the relationship between people and place. His work resonates strongly with the 2027 HLF-WWK theme, “Nature Writing, Travel Writing & the Spirit: Writing the Earth, Mapping the Soul,” reflecting a lifelong engagement with the natural world as both a physical landscape and a source of poetic and spiritual inquiry.
Yuyutsu divides his time between Kathmandu, New York, and literary festivals around the world. He is the editor of Pratik: A Quarterly Magazine of Contemporary Writing.
