Narayan Dhakal

Narayan Dhakal is a distinguished Nepali writer, novelist, essayist, and journalist known for his sharp social insight and powerful storytelling. Born in Mulpani, Kathmandu, he holds a Master’s degree in Economics and has made significant contributions to Nepali literature across genres including fiction, essays, children’s literature, poetry, and translation.

Dhakal is the author of acclaimed short story collections such as Shaharyantra, Irfan Ali, and Indrajaal, as well as celebrated novels including Durbhiksha, Pretkalpa, and Hajar Mileko Bato. His essay collections, notably Teen Samvatsar, and his poetry collection Narakko Dhoka further showcase his literary range. He has also translated important international and regional works into Nepali, broadening literary access for Nepali readers.

A recipient of numerous prestigious awards—including the Sajha Best Book Award for Pretkalpa—Dhakal’s work reflects deep engagement with social realities and human experience. Beyond literature, he has served in public life as a Member of Parliament and held key roles in local governance and civil society.

He has also had a long and influential career in journalism, working as editor for several publications and as associate editor of Annapurna Post for a decade. Narayan Dhakal remains a vital voice in contemporary Nepali literature.
