Portugal at HLF–WWK Poetry Film Festival, 2026
A Special Film Collaboration with the Portuguese Embassy & Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre, New Delhi
The Himalayan Literature Festival & Writers Workshop 2026 (HLF–WWK) is pleased to present a special collaboration with the Portuguese Embassy, New Delhi, and Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre, bringing a distinctive blend of cinema and poetry to Kathmandu.

As part of this partnership, the festival will screen the acclaimed 2023 Portuguese film Erros Meus, Má Fortuna, Amor Ardente. Inspired by the celebrated sonnet of Luís Vaz de Camões, Portugal’s and the Portuguese language’s greatest poet, the film draws on themes of fate, error, and passionate love that define the poet’s enduring legacy.

Directed by Tiago Durão, the film reimagines this poetic spirit through a contemporary story set in a rural Portuguese village. Unfolding during a funeral, it brings together a community where buried tensions, desires, and relationships quietly surface. The film was released to mark the 500th anniversary of Camões’ birth, adding historical resonance to its narrative.

Erros Meus, Má Fortuna, Amor Ardente (2023)
Synopsis:
In a small Portuguese village, a funeral draws together a scattered community. At its center is Maria, a young woman dissatisfied in her marriage to João, shadowed by their inability to have a child.

The arrival of Carlos unsettles the village, reviving past emotions and stirring jealousy. Admired by some and resented by others, Maria becomes the focus of desire and suspicion. As tensions rise, the story unfolds into a restrained yet powerful exploration of longing, pride, and fate.
