Films screened at the Hymalayan Literature Festival 2026 will include short poetic films, literary quotes and adapted scripts, autobiographical or documentary films about poets and writers, and feature films based on literary or poetic traditions. Interdisciplinary and experimental works that establish a dialogue between poetry, prose, cinema, performing arts and visual arts will also be encouraged. This year’s edition will see special participation from Morocco, Egypt and European countries.
A jury of Irish filmmaker Peter Salzbury, Hollywood composer Chad Cannon and British director Steven Bocas will select the best films for the 2026 Himalayan Literature Festival. Journalist, poet, writer and filmmaker Ramkishore Parsha from India will be a special guest at the festival. The deadline for filing films was set for March 15, 2026.
“By entering a new phase of development, the Himalayan Literature Festival and the book workshop will continue their commitment to promoting dialogue between different forms of language, nation and art,” says Srijana Bandari, director of the Himalayan Literature Festival. According to the festival’s coordinator in Nepal, the poet and film critic Amar Akash, this new festival will not only honor literature, but will also lay the foundations for a new tradition that reimagines on-screen poetry and expands through cinema.
An award will also be given to the best film among the films screened at the festival. Yuyutsu Sharma, the organizer of the 2026 Nepal Himalaya Film Festival for Literature, is a prominent poet, writer and publisher, and its publishing house, Nerala Publishing, plays an important role in organizing this festival.
