Delighted to welcome award-winning Austrian novelist Ana Marwan to the Himalayan Literature Festival 2026 in Kathmandu!
Ana Marwan was born in 1980 in Murska Sobota. After studying comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, she moved to Vienna in 2005, where she began her literary career in 2008, receiving the Schreiben zwischen den Kulturen literary prize. After completing Romance Studies at the University of Vienna and working various jobs, she has spent the past six years focusing exclusively on writing prose—both long and short—in German and Slovenian.
Her debut novel, Der Kreis des Weberknechts, appeared in 2019 with Austrian publisher Otto Müller Verlag. Her second novel, Zabubljena, originally written in Slovenian, was published by Beletrina in 2021 and received the Kritiško sito award. She has also published numerous short stories in anthologies and literary magazines.
In 2022, Marwan won the prestigious Ingeborg Bachmann Prize at the 46th Days of German-Language Literature for her short story Wechselkröte. She currently lives in a village between Vienna and Bratislava.
We are honored to have her join us in Kathmandu for HLF 2026!
